Leadership from the Village of Tinley Park and the Tinley Park Public Library, including Mayor Michael Glotz, Library Board President Laura Hess Wojcik, and Library Board Member Bradley Daniels, met on September 30 to discuss health insurance, shared services, improved communication, and the development of formal intergovernmental agreements between the two taxing bodies. The meeting was productive and both parties are committed to working directly and cooperatively to resolve these issues in a manner that is fair to taxpayers and employees of both organizations.
The parties reviewed the long-term financial impact of health insurance claims and premiums. For approximately the last 3.75 years, the Village has experienced increased insurance costs for Village and Library employees. Moving forward, the Village and Library agreed to allocate insurance costs more equitably so that each taxing body is appropriately responsible for their own cost. As part of the discussions, the parties agreed to develop intergovernmental agreements to ensure a fair cost sharing of financial services and benefit administrative costs.
Pending Village Board approval, anticipated on October 6th, the Library will be included in the Village’s health insurance renewal for calendar year 2027 with the final cost-sharing terms subject to approval by both Boards.Village staff will publicly present the health insurance cost estimates and information discussed during the September 30 meeting at the October 6 Committee of the Whole meeting beginning at 5:45 p.m.
We ask residents to allow this process to continue as both organizations work toward formal agreements that provide greater clarity, accountability, and transparency while protecting Village and Library employees and the taxpayers who fund both organizations. Both the Village and Library will provide additional information as appropriate as these agreements move forward.
