Teen Volunteering at the Library

Due to the renovation of the Youth Services floor and a temporary reduction in programming for children and families, in-person teen volunteering is on hiatus for the rest of the school year.

Teaching Internship

Interested in working with children? The Tinley Park Public Library Summer 2025 Teaching Internship might be for you! Guided by two experienced classroom teachers, interns will attend four training sessions to prepare for the Camp Kindergarten and Camp First Grade programs for children. This program is open to teens currently in grades 8-12.  Fill out an application starting April 1.

Summer Reading Volunteer Program

We will be accepting applications from May 1-21 for our Summer Reading Volunteer Program.  The program is open to those finishing grades 6-12. Volunteers should plan to volunteer a minimum of 12 hours in June and July at the summer reading prize booth on the second floor. The online application form will be available from May 1-31.

Virtual Volunteering Opportunities

Please note that individual organizations may have rules regarding virtual volunteering. Some organizations may not accept virtual volunteering toward their requirement or may place limits on the number of hours allowed to be virtual. Please check with your organization as these rules may vary. To be a virtual volunteer, please fill out a virtual volunteer application.

Teen Book Reviews

Teens who enjoy reading and writing can recommend titles to other teens by writing reviews for service hours. The reviews will appear in whole or in part on the library’s website, social media, and in print resources at the library. These may include recommended reading lists, Facebook and Instagram posts, signs in the library, etc. When you sign up to be a virtual volunteer with the application above, you will receive an email with the password to access this form to submit your reviews. The password will change every quarter.

Teen Book Lists

Teens can compose lists of 20 books based on provided themes. These lists will primarily be used to help us create book displays for teens in the library. Some lists may be used to create theme-based bibliographies or book recommendations. When you sign up to be a virtual volunteer with the application above, you will receive an email with the password to access this form to submit your reviews. The password will change every quarter.
